Caută texte de cel puțin 17,500 de cuvinte, preferă nuvelele și romanele scurte și acceptă manuscrise trimise fără intervenția unui agen până la sfârșitul lui august, după care vor primi doar manuscrise trimise de agenți literari (și le vor arunca pe celelalte).
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell e o carte magică. Să vă explic: autoarea a primit un avans de un milion de lire sterline ca să o termine, deși nu mai publicase niciodată nimic. Editura Bloomsbury a tipărit 250.000 de exemplare cartonate din prima, pentru că știa că o să se vândă. Și s-a vândut! A început să fie tradusă în 17 limbi chiar înainte să fie publicată în engleză. A luat o tonă de premii.
Nightmare Magazine și Fantasy Magazine caută povestiri horror și, respectiv, fantasy scrise de femei pentru numerele speciale Women Destroy Horror și Women Destroy Fantasy. Cum adică „femeile distrug horror-ul/fantezia”? Păi, s-a dus zvonul că femeile nu știu să scrie nici horror, nici fantasy și distrug genurile astea. Hai să vedem cât de tare le distrugem! 😀 Cine poate să trimită povestiri? Femeile. Ce e o femeie? O persoană care se identifică ca fiind femeie, indiferent de gradul în care se consideră ca atare.

He is a man in his late forties, early fifties, driving down the lane where he used to live as a child. There was a funeral.
I’ve only just seen this today, but the awesome Tor.Com, one of the biggest short fantasy stories publishers out there, is giving away a free mega-book of the award-winning prose they’ve been posting on their site for five years. I’ve just downloaded my copy and it’s huge. I mean it. You should have a few extra hundred MB for the .pdf and the .mobi is well over 100 MB as well.

Is this book for me? It’s an urban fantasy set in Chicago. It features a number of magical creatures, a plot best described as ‘detective mystery’, humor and, occasionally, profanity. If that sounds appealing, then the book is for you. If you’re looking for Deep Meaning, philosophical inquiry, Tolkien-like worlds, romance or Quotable Wisdom, then probably not.
